The Kurma Purana is one of the eighteen principal Puranas,
as stated in the Shrimad-Bhagavatam (SB 12.7.23-24). Srila
Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati ?hakura remarks that only two
kha??as of the Kurma Pura?a are now available, namely the
Purva-kha??a and Uttara-kha??a. Sometimes it is said that
the Kurma Pura?a contains six thousand verses, but according
to Srimad-Bhagavatam the original Kurma Pura?a contains
seventeen thousand verses. It is considered the fifteenth of
the the eighteen Maha-pura?as.
